Hands Together- Experiencing the University Social Responsibility through Practical Projects
Once the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-Year Basic Education were implemented, there was significant demand for multi curriculum and innovative teaching on the ground, especially in rural areas where resources are unequal. Since March 109, the K-12 Humanities and Arts and Scientific Literacy Enhancement Program have been implemented at National Chengchi University; from the perspective of regional revitalization, the university's faculty and students are connected to the field of K-12 education through programmatic practice and curriculum development. Through local practice, our professors and students enrich the teaching and learning resources of K-12 Humanities and Arts and Scientific Literacy in rural areas, while at the same time deepening the aesthetic experience and cultural and artistic characteristics of the region. On the other hand, it also guides university students out of the classroom and into an alternative learning environment where they can see their professional impact and social responsibility through real learning experiences.
Wood Workshop for Teachers from taking root in rural areas
On the weekend of September, a group of kindergarten teachers from Yilan Park of NCFTA Taiwan Craft School started a class from scratch. No handouts, no slides, no fixed seating, merely using a tool to break a log into eating utensils, the experience that the teachers have gained with their sweat is invaluable.
This course is from the Wood Seed Teachers Workshop for Kindergarten Teachers held by the project team at Yilan Park of NCFTA, which is also the first wood teacher training activity in Taiwan to empower kindergarten teachers. Through the curriculum, the teachers' on-site thought about how to translate craft skills into actual teaching, create more multiple teaching, and what different values students would have in learning wood education.
In response to 12-Year basic education curriculum guidelines that emphasize the spirit of experiential practice, woodworking education and teacher training are essential aspects of this program in promoting STEAM education. In addition to the numerous K-12 teacher training workshops in the rural areas, "demonstration sites and collaborative networks" have been established in collaboration with government agencies, schools and local workshops.,we hope to share the many sets of innovative teaching proposals with local arts and humanities to teachers in rural schools around the world to sustain their impact.
Digital Picture Book - Technology Art and Local Culture
In addition to empowering art teachers in rural areas, the project team held dozens of "Humanities and Arts Education Promotion Courses for Schools" in Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Eastern Taiwan, and outlying islands. At the same time, the focus group collects the aesthetic observations and experiences of local residents in the information age, as well as collects hand-painted books with local aesthetics and digitizes them into e-books.which is preserved local cultural and aesthetic stories and promotes them externally, gradually rooting digital aesthetic education.
When our project partner, Professor Wei-Wei Huang, went into schools worldwide to promote Internet information literacy, she learned about the children's fantastic creativity through classes and interviews with villagers. She realized the abundance of resources that characterize the beauty of each region. As illustrated by Taitung Country Rui-Yuan Elementary School's children in the picture book "The Woman Who Caught the Sun," based on the story of Amis or "Shisa's Wish," a musical picture book created by Jinhu Elementary School in Kinmen County. In the future, we hope to promote these fascinating stories to more people through digital art.
Artful Thinking
Besides, the project team continues to develop "Seeing Artistic Thinking" art lesson plans that include creating pathways for thinking about flexibility in visual thinking, and the "Muse Art Enjoyment - The Beauty of Stamps and Expositions Course" which uses "picture observation," "storytelling," "puzzle-solving" and "questioning" as the theme of stamps to guide thinking, which is using art elements as a medium to train teachers and students to think and enter into the teaching scene, which has received a significant response.
Offline Technology Art - National Palace Museum eLearning
The project incorporates the National Palace Museum art objects into programming thinking, cultivating scientific literacy, exploring the programming of the "E-National Palace Museum Scratch One Hundred Horses," and more [digital art lesson plans]. By establishing remote digital/offline teaching platforms, humanities and arts and scientific literacy lesson plans with STEAM content are not limited by distance. This project's overall goal is to promote STEAM humanities and arts education in elementary schools in Taiwan can be gradually achieved.
Interdisciplinary collaboration - participation and learning in the project
This project's spirit is STEAM, the spirit of interdisciplinarity, and the team is based on the College of Education at National Chengchi University, working with the College of Communication and the College of Science. The four professors and assistants were able to feel each other's energy diffusing in a dense discussion exchange, sharing a story about going up and down the outlying islands K-12 program in rural areas. Beyond the planning process, participation itself is one of the most invaluable learning experiences.
