A meaningful rice cake called “Kueh” was an art created by spare foodstuff. There are many types of mold to create Kueh’s shape according to the specific symbolism, such as pineapple meaning rich in life. The purposes of this event were hoping to affect interaction among the elderly, new immigrants and younger generations and to pass on the tradition. There is an old saying that goes, “having an elderly home is a treasure”. Shu-Zen Junior College of Medicine and Management held an event to celebrate “Grandparents day” at the multifunctional activity center on August 21. The event invited elders from the community near the school including Lujhu District, Hunei District, Alian District, and Yong-An District. Despite elders gathering, children from community’s kindergarten were also invited to have fun together. The games designed by Shu-Zen Junior College of Medicine and Management students were willing to provide interaction for three generations. The event design was diversified and matched with activities such as "children’s folk games" and "board games", so that the elders had the opportunity to share their childhood lives and passed on past experiences with the young generation. By interacting through games, the goal was hopefully to achieve happiness and to enhance mutual exchanges between generations. It was hoped that through such activities the elders and young generation would participate together, so that the elders could have a more positive life energy and were more willing to enter the crowd. The elders out of the outdoors would be helpful to delay the disability and aging process, and also to gain more strengthen intergeneration’ interaction. Cishan, Kaohsiung, was formerly known as “Fanshuliao Street.” The Baroque architecture, traditional courtyards and modern buildings in Cishan old street stand harmoniously. Coming to Yuanfu Junior High School today, when the phoenix blossoms were in full bloom, the students who were family elders’ proud were about to advance to another academic career. Nowadays, Taiwan was facing a rapidly aging era, young and old generations were engaged through these activities to enhance the learning effect and enthusiasm for life. Through the interaction, it was also very helpful for the cognition and communication of different cultures between generations. Today, we came to Yuanfu Junior High School. In addition to the students, the elders belonged to the residents of Cishan were also invited from the community to participate in activities. Inthe beginning, a chorus of junior high school students performed to the third grade graduates farewell. The singing was beautiful and sincere and there was also a dance performance. During the show, the elders were the happiest ones because they had seen their grandchildren growing up, becoming more mature and sensible which was the most comforting process in life. During the event, there were also various activities designed for generations’ barrier-breaking. Students were assisting elders in essential oil massage, and help them to try on bright exotic costumes. After the dress up, the elders really had their own style. Despit breaking barriers events, the elders talked about their lifetime story while the students served tea to them. And this was the best of all seeing two generations merged together through the activities. Throughout the event, there was laughter from the elders everywhere while the students tried to use unacquainted Taiwanese to communicate with elders. Such a beautiful picture was the best portrayal of the harmony between the young and elder generations.
