Tea Industry Prosperity: Affectionate Specialists Fostered
Taichung, Changhua, Nantou have the privileges of a stable climate, hills of various heights, and mountain topography. Through the hard work of the predecessors, the types of tea encompass Chin-Shin Oolong, TTES No.8, TTES No.12, Sijichun, etc. With the abundant tea culture and the long-lasting speciality tea industry, the tea craftsmen and the tea specialists are cultivated from generation to generation. The USR project accentuates tea science and the talent cultivation based on "food safety." On the east of Dayeh University is Mountain Bagua adjacent to Fenyuan, Sung Po Ling, Zhushan, Mingjian tea regions. As regards talent cultivation, the complete courses of Higher Education Tea Science and Tea Culture as well as Innovative E-commerce, Beverage Modulation are opened in collaboration with the multi-faceted resources of the school. Thereby, it enables people of all ages and all walks to understand the savor of tea and the innovation of the tea industry.
The character "鑫" (Xin) means much gold and prosperity. Based on the core "food safety", it cultivates managerial talents with "tea art culture, tea manufacturing, sensory evaluation, business managements" through the assistance of Dayeh University's Tea manufacturing Base (Level C technician for tea manufacturing technology examination location) and theories lectured by Dayah's professors (pesticide residue testing, tea ingredient analysis, food hygiene, etc.). Moreover, along with tea manufacturing skills and the inheritance of tea specialists, it provides different career choices and directions for students and offers tea-related industries human resources. The USR project plans to arrange a communicative platform for tea industries, tea manufacturing seminars, and tea art culture, and so forth.
LIU GUANG WEI, who was born in 1982 and graduated from the graduate institute of Food Science and Biotechnology at Dayeh University, is the second generation of the tea farmers in Zhushan, Nantou. He has been immersed in the management of tea plantation, tea manufacturing skills, and his father's guidance. Right after graduation from the university, he devoted himself to the tea industry. Over the course of a few years, he pondered how to integrate tea manufacturing into food and agriculture education and the added value of tea. Learning the fact that Dayeh University is a veteran of the management courses of Food Hygiene Safety Processing that combines campus resources – the industry-academia collaboration to have product value-added, he chose Dayeh for further study. During the period of studying, he learned food hygiene management and tea science analysis, which deepened his understanding in tea fermentation and are applied for different tea manufacturing such as black tea, oolong tea, winter tip, etc. In 2019, he was awarded the gold medals of Nantou Pinehill Tea Competition Association Winter Tip Competition, International Tea Stroke Event Black Tea Competition, the second and third place of Nantou Partially Fermented Technique. He hopes that he can be a good example to encourage young farmers to get better. He is currently a consultant of tea association related events and classes for the promotion in the central part of Taiwan of USR project.
The USR project cooperates with Feng Lun Elementary School in Pitou, Changhua. Feng Lun is a rural and small-scale school where the students are fewer than those in metropolitan regions. In an attempt to enrich students' experiences in the summer vacation, the school held "Happy Learning Summer Camp – Tea Arts Science" in partnership with the USR project, incorporating tea ceremony, pastry, beverages modulation, science experiments, etc. to let students have more learning experiences. In the wake of the summer camp, Chen Yong Tang, the principal of Feng Lun Elementary School, regarded the cultivation of attitude as the main goal in the education of elementary school. The seed was planted in students' minds and will sprout someday under the positive influence of tea culture and different learning experiences. He has seen the growth of the students and values every event that the students have participated in. Students' reflections and reviews encourage him to help the kids discover any possibilities.
Rui Zhu Elementary School is located in Zhushan Township, Nantou. The developing industries nearby are tea plantations and tea factories. The USR project teamed with Rui Zhu Elementary School, developing a unique education of tea culture, bamboo arts, and ceramics. Shi Jun Ji, the principal of Rui Zhu Elementary School, encouraged students to learn the depth and diversification of tea and invited students from the other schools in Zhushan township to join the courses together with an aim to inspire their creativity and imagination. The courses combine yoga into tea picture books, which further creates dynamic in static and tea ceremony in dynamic. Based on the historical records, the poets praised varieties of tea while tea savoring through playing the bamboo-made instrument to make the tea poems read differently. During the presentation and exhibition of learning results, the students made the table with the tea set drawn by them and treated guests with a tea ceremony. They were excited about the class planning for next semester. The little fun sprouts in their minds and brings a positive influence on their attitude and mentality.
