Fang-yuan Township is the second largest administrative district in Changhua County, located in the southwest of Changhua and nearby the sea.
There used to be a very prosperous history. It was the second port of Lu-Kang. In the early days, it was known as the Pearl of the West Coast in Taiwan.
Along with the change in times and youth population outflow, Fang-yuan no longer flourishes.
This beautiful village still retains its traditional fishing town atmosphere. The largest aquaculture industry is clam farming, with an annual output value of more than NT$5 billion. But the environment has deteriorated in recent years (Diseases of Aquatic Organisms, Air pollution, water pollution, eutrophication)
It would cause a lot of problems: Clam death rate rises, heavy losses for fishermen, loss of money, a sharp drop in production, increased costs, and also made young people reluctant to return to their hometowns, resulting in an increase in the age of fish farmers, young people leaving their homes, and aging of the hometown population.
Clam cultivation is distributed along the coast of south central in Taiwan, Changhua and Yunlin are the most prosperous. Fang-yuan Township has the highest stocking density in the area of about 1 to 1.6 million per hectare.
However, under high-density aquaculture, it takes a lot of pellet feed to feed them, so it is easy to accumulate a large amount of organic matter, resulting in eutrophication, water hypoxia, and a large number of pathogens. Air pollution is washed into the soil by rainwater, polluting nearby ditches and ponds. As a result, many clams died.
Clams grow in the sea, so the water quality management and bacterial control of the pond are particularly important. In order to solve local problems, the Department of Biology and Environmental Education Center of Changhua Normal University cooperated with the local Changhua Aquaculture Association, we hope to actively help fishermen become a friendly environmental aquaculture industry, and assist in the promotion of production and marketing resumes and eco-tourism, hoping to achieve environmental protection, sustainable operation and development
We actively cooperate with the local area. It is also very important for students to connect with the local area and industry deeply.
The Education Center should cooperate with the relevant professional bodies to offer a professional course, including: "Mollusology", "Introduction to Marine Life Science", "Coastal Biological Resources", "Invertebrate Experiments", "Sustainable Development and Practice of Coastal Biological Resources" ", "Engineering and Life", "Introduction to Green Energy Technology", etc.
Establish students' basic marine knowledge, including: Fang-yuan's local courses, marine biology, coastal ecology and resources, and green energy and related applications. Through understanding marine biology and ecological diversity, marine biological resources are valuable assets.
Cultivate students to understand the ocean, love the ocean, and cherish the ocean, and then work with the students to propose solutions to the local problems of Changhua's coastal area. Bring students together to form a water quality team to help the village.
Detect the water quality in the open sea, ditches and ponds to prevent fishermen using poor water quality. Pest Control exotic mussels, reduce the death of clams. Cooperate with Changhua County Farming Association to promote the use of photosynthetic bacteria and help ponds improve water quality. Cultivating Bdellovibrio to control the water quality of the pool.
Our Environmental Education Center also actively cultivates local environmental educators. Including 24-hour courses, 33-hour courses and 120-hour courses to nurture environmental educators. In addition to the workshop guidance of local educators, we also hope that by nurturing local educators, local educators can solve local problems.
Also combined with the cross-field experts and scholars of our school and other schools to establish a team to solve the problem of coastal pollution, clam farming industry, beach cleaning and wetland conservation, friendly farming industry, food safety, green energy, community regeneration and another sustainable environment promotion,
Including "Green Energy Workshop", "Friendly Farming Fish Farm-Food Farmer Education Workshop", "Common Fish Disease Workshop", " Traceable Agricultural Products and Wetland Workshop", and "Improve the Water Quality of Aquaculture Ponds Workshop ".
Cooperate with local associations such as Han-bao Village, Changhua County Environmental Protection Alliance and Wang-Gong Oyster Art Center to promote green energy, energy saving, carbon reduction and friendly environment. Turn fishing village Around to make it better.
Use the Environmental Education Center as a platform to integrate environmental sustainability theory and practice, and guide students to design local environmental courses and activities. Promote environmental education, photoelectric green energy application, friendly breeding technology, community transformation and reconstruction, improve environment and industrial quality, and sustainable environmental management.
