The distance between us and the elderly
How old are you now?
I think everyone’s answer may not be the same. If someone can answer the same answer at the same time, there will be a tacit understanding. Once we were all ignorant children. Under the time and age, everyone has a different story. Such a story is hidden in everyone's heart. The pace of time never stops, and our age slowly stacks up with the pace of time to draw out our own storyline. The moving in the plot should start from participating in the school’s USR project...
I don’t know if anyone like me understands the terms such as USR, long-term photo, university social responsibility, respite...etc. But it is not equal to my own personality that likes early adopters. Based on all kinds of curiosity and full of interest, I participated in the University Social Responsibility Practice Program of Daren University of Science and Technology, referred to as "USR". When I first entered this field, I felt like a child in a kindergarten. I felt full of adventure opportunities in an unknown environment, because every term is new to me. Whenever I participate in activities held in every venue At that time, I felt like a boy scout, full of vitality.
Gradually... and the teammates...
Gradually... more and more events are held...
Gradually... the outline of USR became clearer...
Gradually...Suddenly discovered, why are there so many old people?!
Just like the Koushe tribe not far from the school, although the cultural and construction stations in the tribe are seriously understaffed, they spare no effort in caring for the health and family conditions of the elderly, and it feels more like the care of relatives. The original population is aging in a remote village. The problem is more serious than in the city. This was only seen when the USR project entered this original tribal type. It is just that the VUVU (collectively known as the elderly) in the tribe are very enthusiastic, lively, and cheerful in nature, and their physical condition is also better. What I imagined to come is healthy, which is completely different from what I think. Following the footsteps of the team, it allows me to come into contact with places that are usually impossible to come to. I also try to get along with unfamiliar but very enthusiastic old people. I can’t help thinking. , Can I be as cheerful as these VUVUs?
Coming to another field of practice, it’s the old-and-child co-learning model occasionally read in newspapers and magazines. Elders and elementary school students go to school together. I think the focus of learning is not what the teacher teaches, it feels more like grandparents and grandchildren together. What has been done is just to complement the family education that we have to become small families due to social changes. The process of getting along with young and old is not the best teaching material for life education. It turns out that there is such a school around me.
I guess, usually, you will not go to the Rizhao Center or the care base without any problems, because in the impression, those are places where the elderly will go. Indeed, if it weren't for the USR project, I would really not come here. In the Rizhao Center, I finally saw the imaginary middle-aged life. Just like what I saw on TV, most of the elders’ movements were in wheelchairs or on crutches, feeling very calm. However, I think the old people are still curious about what we young boys are doing here, because although they sit quietly, their eyes follow our figure. Although their eyes move and their mouths do not move, we still Can feel the look full of expectation.
Time keeps moving forward, and I keep getting deeper and deeper, no matter how far you and I are from old age, one day, these three scenes will eventually be part of our life portrayal. You can't choose to abandon, nor can I. With each passing day, the distance between us and the old man gets closer, until the moment we become old people. Therefore, holistic health cannot be realized when it is old, and the issue of aging cannot be just a slogan.
As the distance between you and the elderly is getting closer and closer, do you think about what changes we can make for us in the future?
