“Connecting the world from local to global is no longer just a slogan.”- National Taiwan University of Arts, Chen Chih-Cheng, President
This is the first year that National Taiwan University of the Arts (NTUA) has received a subsidy from the Ministry of Education to promote university social responsibility. NTUA has decided to join forces with the surrounding schools, businesses, and local residents to bring a new look to the Daguan area. With the "Daguan Creative Arts Community Aesthetics Practice Project", NTUA will proceed hand in hand with the local community, by providing arts and cultural activities and injecting artistic energy into the local community.
Our aim is to establish a new site for arts and culture and to create new lifeblood (subtitle)
Daguan can be considered as the most educational area in New Taipei City. The whole area nurtures with education in the arts and humanities: Daguan Elementary School, Zhong-shan Elementary School, New Taipei Municipal Ta-Kuan Junior High School, National Overseas Chinese Experimental Senior High School, and NTUA.
Our university dedicates to art and culture for over sixty years, and now it's time for NTUA to rethink how to spread the energy of art on campus into the lives of our neighbors. In order to let the public come and participate in our projects with affinity and without pressure. We decided to create a brand-new leisure place for Daguan residents: Floating Cloud Plaza. Plaza is a place where people can come and relax after work or on holidays. We have also chosen Floating Cloud Plaza as the core of our project, holding a number of educational outreach and market events, and inviting local children and adults to join us with fun.
Floating Cloud Plaza was completed during the summer holidays. To celebrate the birth of Floating Cloud Plaza, children who participated in our creative T-shirt competition were invited to celebrate the opening of Floating Cloud Plaza. We also invited the band “Sausage & Chasel” and “Four Pens”, distinguished alumni of NTUA, who performed many great songs. Thanks to this event, we saw the potential of Daguan area: our teachers and students, but also many alumni, residents, and shopkeepers have a deep connection to this place and have unlimited imagination about the potential development in store for this area! We hope to use the opportunity of the University Socially Responsible Practice Program to attract attention to the Daguan area as a new art and cultural district.
Professionalism X Imagination X Innovation, Dagaun Infinite Potential(subtitle)
NTUA, where humanities and arts education has been developing for over 65 years, presents an outstanding ability in the field of art. Our teachers are constantly absorbing new knowledge and passing it on to the students, while the students continue to learn and create imaginative works of art. In this three-year project, we used our expertise in art to design the floating cloud (Fu-Yun) imagery by our school's visual communication teachers. The cute, simple logo and the white container house give the project a friendly and memorable impression. For each event, students from various majors designed a beautiful poster, flyers, and even videos, so that they could put into practice what they have learned and develop their talents. By combining the artistic traditions of NTUA with the unlimited imagination and creativity of our students and the local suggestions of our neighboring partner schools and residents, we hope to bring a brighter future to the Daguan area.
Connect locally to establish a social network of arts and culture(subtitle)
The aim of our Aesthetics Practice Project is to develop and expand Daguan’s artistic energy in a sustainable manner, and to become a model region for internationalization through local practices. Therefore, at the core of the project, we strive to identify artistic talent in the Daguan area and nurture it through the process of developing these seeds into artistic leaders (KOL). We plan arts and cultural events that serve the public and develop from our own interests. We also operate social media, using Facebook and Instagram as a platform to connect arts leaders and build a social network of arts and culture through connections, so that relevant information and resources can reach a wider audience.
NTUA's Aesthetics Practice Project serves in the Daguan area; however, we have always tried to reach beyond. We hope to take advantage of our art majors, the creativity of our faculty and students, and the pragmatism of our local residents and their passion for regional development, and work together over the course of three years to elevate arts and cultural activities in the Daguan area to a national level and further promote them to the global level, realizing the vision of a glocal dimension, that is, growing internationally by shining locally.
