Protecting and traveling at the Island of Sea Turtles - Liuqiu
This program is jointly implemented by Tainan University of Technology (TUT) and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST). With the focus of “care”, TUT enhances the locals’ recognition for Liuqiu by Grassroots Program, and promotes environmental awareness of tourists and local vendors by Innovative Liuqiu Tours. Furthermore, NKUST aims to promote age-friendly space and tourism, and protect the local ecological system through collaborating with local vendors, fishermen, and institutions. Liuqiu, TUT and NKUST altogether address the aging and ecological issues, and co-create innovative cuisine, products, and tours.
1. Herbal cuisine for the elderly
To provide the elderly with healthy, balanced diet to stay away from kidney diseases, our team designs herbal cuisine to cater to the elderly and promotes health knowledge with local institutions. We also establish health classrooms, herbal cuisine recipes and craft workshops to offer the elderly mental and physical care.
2. Innovative Liuqiu Tours
To raise the awareness of local humanities and cultures, we introduce “Liuqiu Story Web” with Web-AR experiences and QR code settings for tourists to learn about the local humanities, history and environment. With QR code settings, we develop off-road, road running and treasure hunt activities, alternatives to aquatic activities.
3. Liuqiu recognition and Grassroots Program
To raise recognition for Liuqiu and students themselves, we hold summer camps for junior high and elementary school students to explore the local humanities, life, and history. The students do projects to be included in the “Liuqiu Story Web”. Moreover, Innovative Liuqiu Tours, Liuqiu Story Web, and Grassroots Program support one another to help promote this program, and also connect tourists with the locals.
4.Plastic-free life with reusable cup bags
We work with ILIUQ to introduce reusable eco-friendly cup bags for “Liuqiu reusable cups” to help protect the environment.
5.Age-friendly tourist areas and DIY workshops
To encourage the elderly to interact with youngsters, we create age-friendly tourist areas and hold DIY workshops, and also hold souvenir designing camps for local elementary school students.
6.Innovative tourism promotion
We work with local vendors to design interesting and interactive travel itineraries, souvenirs, sea turtle rewards cards to help promote tourism. In addition, to reduce carbon emissions, we work with local E-scooter partners and 5 B&B owners to set up websites for tourists to book rooms and aquatic activities, and help turn these partners into start-ups.
