Migrant workers learning. Invest in the future. Dreaming in Taiwan.
In Taiwan, hundreds of thousands migrant workers enter the labor market every year, making up for Taiwan’s economic development and long-term care manpower gap. In addition, as of August 2020, the number of foreign residents who have acquired nationality has exceeded 500,000. These foreign migrant workers, mainly from Southeast Asian countries, have become an important part of Taiwan. Regardless of race, age, language, belief, or culture, pursuing one's own ideals and having a better future are universal values and human needs and desires. These long-term migrant workers and new immigrants who have lived in Taiwan, have left their hometown. If help them to learn, accumulate future employability, improve life adaptation, and create a happy experience of life in a foreign country, I believe it will be positively helpful to Taiwan’s society, family, industry, community development, and international image.
In Taiwan, they can return to school and embrace their dreams
Because of family factors, some migrant workers have to give up their dreams of studying and have to work hard in Taiwan to earn their lives. However, when they came to Kao Yuan University they took a one-day set of learning courses. In the morning, they had a Chinese class. In the afternoon, they could learn how to taste coffee, to make handmade soap, to have tea ceremony experience and so many hand-made learning experiences. In addition, in fitness training course, they learn how to improve their health and physical fitness. This training course combining the school’s faculty and equipment, with the assistance of the students, the eight weeks of learning was full of laughter and memories.
Encourage migrant workers to write their own life stories
In order to encourage migrant workers to write their own profound life stories in Taiwan, the first Kao Yuan university cup of Literature awards for migrant workers was held. With the assistance of teachers and students from the General Education Center, and external reviewers were invited, professional teachers and students on campus assisting in the translation, so that these stories can be seen by the social community. It helps us to have a deeper understanding of these migrant workers, who have contributed to Taiwan so much.

In this project, we train international students to learn how to conduct a native-speaking guide, and how to coordinate and integrate off-campus visits by regional migrant workers and international students. We have planned three local travel routes, including museum visits (Natural History Education Museum/Shadow Play Museum/Aviation Education Exhibition Hall/ Taiwan Soya-mixed meat Museum) and natural landscape visits (The Eye of Gangsan / Agongdian Forest Park / Gangsan Ecological Park), and a local cultural tour (Gangsan Old Street/Shoutian Temple/Military Village Culture). Most of the international migrant workers and international students live in dormitories besides class and work. Through the experience of these trips, they can ride electric bikes and know more about some leisure and leisure attractions. They can also learn more about the humanities, history and natural culture of Taiwan.
Learning in the Living Museum
One of the important skills learned by the Department of Tourism is the practical tour guide.
