Santian Elderly Value Creation Plan
Hsiuping University of Science and Technology
“Scattered field” is a concept of distributed small fields, which connects small areas that can be cultivated into a virtual farm through network or cloud technology. Chang, Chao-Tsun, a professor at Hsiuping University of Science and Technology who studies Internet of Things applications, has tried to achieve such a technology field in recent years using small automatic planting boxes. He says building a large-scale net room cultivation field often costs millions of dollars in infrastructure. It is a plant factory that is "rounded to zero" to activate the community idle space. On the one hand, it increases agricultural output value; on the other hand, it upgrades the participation rate of popular science activities in the community.
”Is it really possible?” ”I'm not sure, but we can try!” replied Chang, Chao-Tsun all the time. Owing to the productivity catalyzed in traditional multi-rural culture, the modest rural life is gradually sealed in people's memory. The impact of "Labor asymmetry" is testing small farmers in rural areas. Also the phenomenon of low birth rate, aging, and population displacement is entangled in their mood. To stimulate the thought of sustainable operation of the community, multiculturalism should be supported by a friendly farming environment. “Scattered field” may play a role in the platform and case of food and agriculture education combined with intelligent agriculture to integrate with the wisdom of communities, schools, and experts. In addition, to protect multi-rural culture, new ideas and values must be positively created.
Hsiuping University of Science and Technology and An Ding Elementary School
Waipu, located in Taichung, is a quiet rural area of Taiwan. Taro, rice, passion fruit, red dragon fruit, water bamboo are the main farming. The phenomenon of low birth rate, aging, and population displacement exists as in most rural areas. Low birth rate caused the campus space of the local elementary schools or junior high schools to become idle and resources are not being used properly. The aging population has made it impossible for many of the elderly to engage in farming, and their dignity of life is being tested. Population displacement has resulted in problems such as age care manpower, participation in activities, and difficult living arrangements. Population displacement has problems to solve such as aging care manpower, participation in activities, and living accompanying. The principal of An Ding Elementary School, Chen Suping, said, "We need to make some changes. Don't let this elegant rural style be left only with land, old houses and the elderly." Through food and agriculture education, the school lets pupils understand and get close to agriculture; likewise, cherish this land full of feelings. What other innovative elements can be added to the community?
Introduced by Chen Zhilian, section manager of Waipu District Office, and Hou Quantai, monitor of the Production and Marketing team, thus HUST "scatter field" was integrated into the campus of An Ding Elementary School at Waipu, where the local residents, pupils, the elderly, agricultural professionals, experts in the field of Industry, Official and University get together enthusiastically. To carry out the teaching experiment of "food and agriculture education" combined with "intelligent agriculture science and technology," we all come to nourish and care for a dream of the future.
From classroom learning to local practice
The "scatter field" system planned by HUST team has automatic cultivation capabilities for decentralized deployment and remote monitoring to achieve data collection or analysis and automatic cultivation. When taking the first step in community practice, the prototype is brought to the field, and the problem becomes a realistic teacher. The following issues, for example, renovation of the environment, power adjustment, water supply convenience, pest invasion, wind and rain protection, environmental protection and friendly farming, and cost and output value always urge the team to deal with. Among the issues, the partners will get a great achievement. HUST students learned the Internet of Things technology in class to build up “An Ding Scattered field”, which is available to practice the spirit of USR.
For the first time, the team was in an uneasy mood to remotely monitor the cultivation process of cream cabbage. Through the monitoring software, the plants’ growth and change can be seen. Through the sensing data transmitted back, the nurturing environment can be controlled or adjusted. The "scattered field" uses semi-outdoor off-ground soil to cultivate plants. While visiting weekly to the scattered field, regular rehydration and fertilization have to be applied and, more importantly, pests and plant growth should be observed. Then, ventilation conditions, air temperature and humidity, and the degree of water supply will be paid adequate attention. Therefore, to make plants grow and harvest steadily, the site and plant species for the scattered field need to be selected carefully to meet the appropriate control parameters.
